JW Goethe was a regular visitor to the Bílina spa. Together with important scientists of the time, they were engaged in the search for a genuine German stratovolcano. Bílinská mountain Bořeň was a serious candidate, but A. Reuss himself came to the conviction that it is not a real volcano. Today we know that this is phreatomagmatic volcanism, a volcano under the surface of the sea. Here we see an original Goethe engraving of Bořná.
